Restored in 2013 283ci Engine Rebuilt in 2013 1957 Chevrolet Bel Air

The 1957 Bel Air stands as a quintessential icon among the tri-five Chevrolets, and this 2-door hardtop, expertly restored in 2013, is a prime example of this classic. Originally leaving the factory as a model 210 hardtop, it underwent a conversion to a Bel Air, featuring all the correct exterior and interior trim. The only exception lies in the upholstery, restored with 210 fabric. The body maintains its straight and true form, adorned with a two-tone exterior that was resprayed and remains in very good overall condition. While there are a couple of minor blemishes under the Calypso Cream finish due to oversights in the preparation phase, they are hardly noticeable. All chrome and gold trim appear virtually new, and GM rally wheels with spinner centers are equipped with radial whitewall tires.

The restored interior is also in commendable condition, showcasing well-maintained upholstery, dash, door cards, and headliner. This Chevy boasts some unique factory options, including a stoplight prism, a ‘swing-out’ tissue holder, and a ‘Flame Out’ vacuum-powered ashtray. Tinted window glass enhances the overall appeal, and an aftermarket AM/FM/cassette sound system has been thoughtfully installed.

While the owner suggests that the engine may be the original 283ci, there is no documented evidence. However, the ‘V code’ VIN number confirms the car’s original delivery with a V-8 engine. As of 1957, GM no longer stamped the continuous engine number on the block, and the pad on this motor lacks information. The 283 was rebuilt in 2013 and maintains a stock appearance, featuring a 2-barrel Rochester carburetor, ‘rams-horn’ exhaust manifolds, and a dual exhaust system. The first-generation small block is paired with a 2-speed PowerGlide that shifts smoothly, and the subdued rumble from the exhaust adds a musical touch.

The chassis features manual steering and manual 4-wheel drum brakes. This beautiful Chevy hardtop is a valuable addition to any tri-five collection.
